Energy Audits

Features

The average American spends $2500 annually in electric bills. Increasing your home’s energy efficiency and making it “Green” will provide a healthier more comfortable environment and can reduce your monthly utility bills  up to 50%. A home energy audit should be the first step in understanding how to make your family’s home more efficient and ensuring financial security against imminent rising energy costs. An audit can help you assess how much energy your home uses/wastes, and it evaluates what pro-active measures, large and small, can be taken to improve the efficiency in an immediate order, that provides the largest impact and fastest payback to the energy efficient improvements you make.

Our accredited energy audit expert will complete an interview with you, thorough evaluation of the home, and provide a detailed report up to 37 pages of identified problems found in the Audit, We will then evaluate this report with you, and assist in prioritizing the necessary repairs in order of importance.
This energy audit takes the guesswork out of home energy improvements by identifying previously unseen problems, and will provide a clear picture to you of the homes inefficiencies, this information can then be used to implement some, all, or none of the recommendations. It’s completely up to you.

Home Energy Audit Level 1 – The energy auditor will do:

  1. A room-by-room examination of the residence (inside and out) including doors, windows, attic space, insulation, furnace, air conditioning, ducts, appliances, and lighting
  2. A Thermal Imaging Scan (checking select internal walls and ceilings for leaks and insulation/infiltration problems)
  3. A thorough examination of past utility bills to establish a baseline (only what the occupants use)
  4. Provide a detailed report or findings, and recommendations.

Home Energy Audit Level 2 – This comprehensive analysis includes a Level 1 Energy Audit plus:

  1. A Blower Door Test (measures air infiltration in your house), and a Duct Blaster Evaluation (measures and locates leaks in your home’s HVAC system).
  2. HERS rating– please contact us for a more detailed description of a HERS Rating.

The most common problems found in homes are related to air leakage or “holes”, both designed and underdesigned, in the building’s shell. When unconditioned air from outside slips into your home, or conditioned air seeps out, you have to pay to heat or cool that extra air replacement. This common problem can be caused by some or all of the following: wind; “stack pressure” (pressure differences in the home); or mechanical systems in the home (HVAC, exhaust fans, powered vents). These problems could also be the cause of indoor air quality issues, bringing air in uncontrollably from unwanted and unconditioned spaces.

First and foremost, the driving force behind your Infiltration and/or x-filtration must be identified and resolved. Then, and only then, can the leakage points or “holes” be remedied by air sealing and weatherization techniques. Small air gaps (cracks/gaps) may look small, but they can add up. By eliminating the driving force and air sealing, you could potentially save up to 30% of your energy consumption. This reduction will translate not only into dollars but also into a reduction of carbon emissions, thus helping the environment.

Proper maintenance of a home’s system components is the key to sustaining optimum performance and energy efficiency. Typically, as minor components on homes are neglected they begin to affect the system as a whole and thus become major system deficiencies causing some or all of the following:

  • Dry Indoor Air in Winter
  • Mold, Mildew or Musty Odors
  • Poor Indoor Air Quality
  • High Energy Bills
  • Drafty Rooms
  • Moisture on Windows
  • Hot or Cold Rooms
  • Peeling Paint
