Solar Pool Heating

System Features

Commerical Solar Pool Heating

Commercial Solar Pool Heating

Solar pool heating systems are designed for both indoor and outdoor applications and typically use low cost polymer “unglazed” collectors. These collectors are typically mounted on the roof of the building.

The basic components of a solar pool heating are the solar collectors, an automatic control system, diverter valve, and associated piping. These components are simply added to the existing pool pump, timer and filter. A conventional back-up heater can be integrated or the existing pool heater to back-up the solar system to compensate for cloudy days or evenings.

A solar pool heating system can heat your pool up to 15°F warmer than it would normally be without the system. By adding a pool blanket or cover, the pool can be heated up to 18 to 25 warmer than without the system.

You can expect your swimming season to last from March to November for outdoor pools utilizing a solar pool heating system and a pool blanket during nights when ambient temperatures drop below 60°F. Indoor pools can be heated and used year round with the use of solar heating systems to completely heat or offset part of heating cost. This cost can be high when using natural gas or propane as the heating fuel.

Benefits

Commercial Solar Pool Heater for Large Outdoor Pool

Commercial Solar Pool Heating at University

Solar thermal pool heating is clearly the most cost effective use of solar energy on earth. The collectors for solar pool heaters last from 12 to 20 years—more than two to three times the life of a gas heater, elec-tric heater, or a swimming pool heat pump. These systems typically can significantly reduce operating costs for commercial pools and pay for themselves in 3 to 5 years of utility savings.
